Protections against domestic violence is personal, I have found myself in the position of having to protect my family and faced a system of complicated laws that made it difficult to get the straightforward protection we needed. Survivors of domestic violence do not deserve to be further criminalized for doing their best to protect their families under unimaginably difficult circumstances, and there are too many laws and procedures on the books today that do just that. As State Representative I will listen to the calls of survivors of domestic violence and intimate partner violence to tip the scales in their favor and give them the care they deserve. We cannot as a community turn a blind eye to gender-based and intimate partner violence if we want to build a fundamentally safer and more just community.
